Bake It Easy, Dad — It’s Father’s Day!
June 06 2025 – Dawn Chapman

Every year, as Father’s Day approaches, the internet explodes with beard oil gift sets, camouflage grill aprons, and images of stoic men holding fishing rods at sunrise. Dads, apparently, are contractually obligated to enjoy only three things: grilling, hiking, and fishing.
But what if we told you that the next frontier of dad-dom isn’t the great outdoors….it’s the great indoors, specifically, the kitchen? That’s right. It’s time to trade in the tackle box for a mixing bowl and the hiking boots for oven mitts.
Let's break it down:
-
Fishing Dad: Wakes up at 4 AM, sits in silence for hours, and maybe catches a fish…MAYBE.
-
Grilling Dad: Stands over a hot grill, flipping burgers, and declaring, "That's not burnt; it's flavour!"
- Hiking Dad: Walks uphill both ways, in the heat, just to prove a point.
But Baking Dad? He’s the unsung hero. He measures, he mixes, he bakes, and he creates something that brings the whole family together. Plus, the kitchen is air-conditioned. That sounds pretty good to me.

The Rise of the Sourdough Dad
Remember the "C-word" era? While some of us were perfecting our TikTok dances or binge-watching every show ever made, a surprising number of dads were elbow-deep in flour, nurturing their sourdough starters like they were newborns.
They named them ("Doughy McDoughface"), fed them daily, and spoke of hydration percentages with the seriousness of a Bay Street analyst. It was a beautiful, if slightly obsessive, time.
If your dad wasn’t the sourdough type and isn’t into measuring, mixing, rollin’ n’ patting, then, the easy to make, hard to resist buttery, flaky goodness of Lazy Daisy's Bake-At-Home Buttermilk Biscuits could be the baking experience for him. (aka all the nostalgia of home baking without the mess!)
The Baking Dad Starter Pack
But listen, it’s Father’s Day so I want to take it easy on dads. Ease them into the baking world slowly (unless he’s a retired sourdough master, in which case, fair warning, this might re-awaken the baking beast inside him). Here's what you'll need:
- An Apron: Preferably one that says "Flour Power" or "Whisk Taker."
- An oven or air fryer, baking sheet, some egg wash: And 30 minutes of dad’s undivided attention.
- Lazy Daisy's Bake-at-Home Buttermilk Biscuits: Because starting from scratch is admirable, but starting from almost scratch is smarter.
- A Sense of Humour: Because things might will go wrong.
The Lazy Daisy Father’s Day Challenge: Bake with Dad
This Father's Day, let's start a new tradition. Instead of gifting another tie, fishing rod or set of golf balls, spend time together in the kitchen. Embrace the mess, the mistakes, and the memories.
Grab a few packs of Lazy Daisy's Bake-at-Home Buttermilk Biscuits, maybe some matching aprons, get baking and post it on Instagram! Build a monster Sammy filled with all his fave toppings. Pair them with pasta or build a big bold burger! Whatever you create with Canada’s best buttermilk biscuit, be sure to tag us @lazydaisysto and we’ll be sure to re-share!!
Final Thoughts
Dads have always been our heroes…fixing what's broken, offering sage advice, and being our biggest cheerleaders. This Father's Day, let's celebrate them in a new way: by baking together, laughing together, and maybe, just maybe, starting a new family tradition.
So, to all the dads out there: preheat that oven, roll up those sleeves, and let's get baking.
And if dad is too lazy to bake, or you just know it’s going to be a disaster, head on over to Lazy Daisy’s Café and enjoy a Father’s Day Brunch with dear dad and leave the baking to us.
